A Kingsley woman who has volunteered for the Royal Agricultural Society of Western Australia for 62 years, was among 104 volunteers recognised at the WA Volunteer Service Awards on Sunday, 7 May.

Judy Hebiton began stewarding in the society's cattle and sheep section in 1955.  Over the past six decades, she has served the organisation as a cattle inspector for competitions and coordinated junior farmers.

The WA Volunteer Service Awards program recognises Western Australian volunteers who have provided 25 or more and 50 or more years of service to one organisation.

The Department of Local Government and Communities hosts award ceremonies during National Volunteer Week each May and on International Volunteer Day on 5 December.

Nominations for the awards are ongoing and can be submitted at any time throughout the year at http://www.dlgc.wa.gov.au

The WA Voluntering Strategy was also launched at the event.

National Volunteer Week runs from 8 – 14 May 2017.
