A plan for achieving greater recognition and support for Western Australia's carers has been launched.
The WA Carers Strategy was developed following several months of research, consultation and feedback from West Australian carers and the organisations supporting them.
It outlines the key priorities affecting West Australia's approximately 320,000 carers with strategies and actions for the community to follow.
The document will guide State Government, private, not-for-profit and non-government agencies working with carers and the people they care for to implement best practice in engaging with and involving carers.
Importantly, the Strategy will ensure carers receive the support they need to perform their range of care responsibilities while having access to the same life choices and opportunities as other members of the community.
The WA Carers Strategy has been developed by the Department of Local Government and Communities, in partnership with the Carers Advisory Council and Carers WA.
Also launched today was the Carers Services Directory, an online directory of services which will allow West Australian carers to easily access information on the services and support available to them.
