Seniors will be given financial assistance under a new initiative that will connect them to local clubs, gyms and recreation centres.
The SilverSport program will provide up to $200 for eligible seniors towards fees, uniforms and equipment needed for sport and recreation activities.
The program will receive $300,000 in funding in 2016-17 from the Departments of Sport and Recreation and Local Government and Communities.
It will initially be rolled out in Belmont, Kwinana, Northam and Kalgoorlie/Coolgardie and target adults from low socio-economic groups, aged 60 years and above.
The fees of up to $200 per person will go directly to recognised SilverSport clubs, recreation centres, programs and businesses, through their local government.
Applicants with a Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card can join a registered SilverSport program from 1 July 2016.
Clubs, programs and businesses can register as recognised SilverSport organisations through the Department of Sport and Recreation.
