A new program which will invest more than $9.4 million into the community sector will deliver services that meet the evolving needs of WA communities.
The development of the new Supporting Communities Program is currently underway, with the Department of Local Government and Communities undertaking comprehensive engagement with the sector to design the program. More than 200 individuals and 100 services have already participated.
The program combines the existing Community and Neighbourhood Development Services, Individual and Family Support and Youth Support Services Programs with the intention to provide more flexibility for services to deliver programs and activities to meet local community needs.
Supporting Communities will strengthen the community in two ways:
- By supporting individuals and families to improve their well-being and build their capacity to prevent and/or deal with temporary adverse situations.
- By strengthening the whole community through community-wide initiatives that involve community member participation and connection.
Current and potential service providers are encouraged to engage across their communities to develop approaches and service activities that respond to community needs.
The Supporting Communities Program will go to open tender in late 2017 and interested existing and potential service providers will be able to apply for funding.
