West Australians will have a better understanding of their council's financial health and performance with the launch of a new website bringing together local government data in an accessible format for the first time.
The new website, MyCouncil, provides a snapshot of all WA's local governments and allows members of the public to make comparisons of data over time and between councils.
Hosted by the Department of Local Government and Communities, the website consolidates data that is currently only available in local government annual reports and other reporting documents with data updated annually in March.
Launched by Local Government Minister Tony Simpson, MyCouncil aims to strengthen local government accountability and performance.
Members of the public can view and compare information, such as how local governments are raising, spending and managing their money to determine if they are receiving value for money by comparing their council with others.
MyCouncil presents financial data visually, making it easier to interpret and make assessments about council performance and improve awareness of each local government's financial health.
DLGC will continue to work with local governments to evolve and expand the capabilities of the website.
