Encouraging women to pursue careers in the traditionally male dominated science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) and trades fields was a focus for the Department of Communities at the recent Skills West Expo.
The Department partnered with TradeUP Australia to promote the benefits of careers in STEM fields and trades by coordinating a stall that will featured live demonstrations where visitors could try their hand at different trades under the supervision of female tradespeople. TradeUP volunteers and Department staff will also be on hand to offer advice about careers in the STEM and trades fields.
Hosting the stall is part of the Department's commitment to support women's economic independence while working to create broader career opportunities for women.
More than 8000 people attend the event, which enables visitors to explore tertiary and vocational career and training options, apprenticeships and find new career pathways.
The expo ran from 18-20 August at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre and was free to attend.
