An online pledge to drive greater support for West Australian women to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering mathematics (STEM) and trades has been launched.

The Women in STEM and Trades Pledge encourages businesses, community organisations and individuals to support women's participation in STEM careers and trades where women are significantly underrepresented.

By taking the Pledge an organisation or individual commits to supporting women in these fields.

To promote the benefits of careers in STEM fields and trades, the Department of Local Government and Communities is partnering with TradeUP Australia to exhibit at the upcoming Skills West Expo on 12-14 August at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The booth will provide information on careers for Women in STEM and trades and the opportunity to experience a number of trades first hand.  Seminars will also be held from 12.30 to 1.10pm at the event each day by organisations in STEM and trades fields on some of the different career opportunities available to girls and women.
