Expressions of interest are now open for an initiative which will create jobs for young people in Western Australia's country local governments.

As part of the Country Local Government Fund (CLGF) Youth Development Program, administered by the Department of Local Government and Communities, traineeships will be offered over two years to local governments in regional WA to employ young people aged 24 years and under.

The program, funded by Royalties for Regions, aims to engage and retain young people in employment in country local government through a focus on leadership, early career development and the creation of traineeship positions.

Country local governments can access up to $5,000 to pay trainee course fees, up to $15,000 as a wage subsidy, and receive resources and support from DLGC.

The initiative also includes scholarships of up to $10,000 each which will be offered to local governments to assist current local government employees 30 years of age and under to undertake nationally recognised training.

The CLGF Youth Development Program is one of five initiatives that have received a total of $5 million in funding over two years to improve the capacity of regional local government.
