Promoting women's economic independence and leadership was a key driver in the decision to double the funding available through the Department of Local Government and Communities' Grants for Women program.

Funding increased to $200,000 in 2016-17 and the program was expanded so applications can be made all year.

The change enables organisations to apply for funding for projects that benefit women at any time and in response to issues and opportunities as they arise.

The Grants for Women program enables eligible community organisations and local governments to secure funding for projects that encourage women's economic independence and/or encourage women's leadership.

The program has two streams:

  • Up to $5,000 for one-off activities or initiatives with a duration of up to six months.
  • Up to $10,000 for longer term, more strategic and sustainable initiatives.

Funding may be used for transport, equipment/venue hire, purchase of minor equipment or child care among other things.

For more information or to view past recipients of the program visit the Community Grants Programs pages.
