Regional and remote local governments and community groups are invited to apply for grants of up to $2,000 to celebrate Children's Week in WA in October.

A total of $20,000 in grants is available to support local events and activities during Children's Week 22-30 October 2016, supported by the Department of Local Government and Communities.

Children's Week is an opportunity for the community to engage in a variety of activities that facilitate, support and encourage children and their families to celebrate, play and discover together.

The funding, awarded to Meerilinga Young Children's Foundation, acknowledges the Department of Local Government and Communities' continuing partnership with Meerilinga in celebrating Children's Week in WA.

Meerilinga have convened Children's Week activities in Western Australia for more than 30 years.

Regional and remote local governments and community organisations are encouraged to start thinking about exciting events where children have an opportunity to learn through engaging activities.

Applications for events held in the Perth metropolitan area and applications for events not held during Children's Week will be ineligible for funding. Separate events will be held in the Perth metropolitan region to celebrate Children's Week.

For more information on Children's Week events, and to apply for a grant visit the Children's Week 2016 website.
