The City of Perth bill received Royal Assent on 3 March 2016, becoming the City of Perth Act 2016.
Under the legislation, the boundaries of the City of Perth will be enlarged to include The University of Western Australia, Kings Park, Queen Elizabeth II Medical Centre and the new Perth Children's Hospital. The new boundaries will come into effect on 1 July 2016.
The City of Perth Act 2016 recognises the unique role of the City of Perth, outlining the responsibilities that should guide the council's actions and decision making.
The Act also amends the Local Government Act 1995 to provide for greater transparency and accountability of councillors and senior officers at local governments across the State by requiring them to disclose gifts and contributions to travel within 10 days of receipt. Disclosures will be posted on the local government's website.
The new Act will operate in conjunction with the Local Government Act 1995.
