DLGC is supporting community organisations to mark International Women's Day.

International Women's Day is celebrated globally on 8 March 2016. The theme for WA's International Women's Day celebrations in 2016 is 'Breaking Through' which recognises the progress being made towards gender equality and acknowledges the ongoing work that supports women to reach their potential.

DLGC supports the WA Women's Hall of Fame which recognises and celebrates the achievements of West Australian women past and present. More than 130 women from across WA have been inducted into the Hall of Fame since 2011. The 2016 inductees will be announced at a ceremony on 8 March at the State Reception Centre.

Also taking place in the first week of March is the annual Grace Vaughan Memorial Lecture. DLGC is partnering with UWA's Institute of Advanced Studies and the Australian Association of Social Workers to hold the event. This year the lecture will take place on Thursday 10 March at the UWA Club Theatre Auditorium and will be presented by Dorinda Cox on the topic of family and domestic violence in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

Community groups and organisations are encouraged to celebrate International Women's Day with their own event.

Groups hosting an event can register details on DLGC's website and have it promoted online.

DLGC's Women's Information Service is providing lapel ribbons on request and a poster that can be downloaded and printed to advertise local International Women's Day events.
